Finding Love by @lcrandallwriter

Happy Valentine's Day!

February 14 is a day for lovers to celebrate love with chocolate, flowers, cards, and a romantic dinner.

But the sentiment of love is not confined to one special day or even for one special person. Love’s expression is inspired in many ways and at any time of year. One of my favorite movie quotes reminds us that love is all around. The movie is Love Actually and the Hugh Grant character who speaks it is England’s prime minister.

“Whenever I get gloomy with the state of the world, I think about the arrivals gate at Heathrow Airport. General opinion's starting to make out that we live in a world of hatred and greed, but I don't see that. It seems to me that love is everywhere. Often, it's not particularly dignified or newsworthy, but it's always there - fathers and sons, mothers and daughters, husbands and wives, boyfriends, girlfriends, old friends. When the planes hit the Twin Towers, as far as I know, none of the phone calls from the people on board were messages of hate or revenge - they were all messages of love. If you look for it, I've got a sneaky feeling you'll find that love actually is all around.

While we celebrate romantic love on Valentine’s Day, I like to consider all the places we can find love. For myself, I feel it flow from the innocence of a child, in the contentment of a cat’s purr, in the beauty of tree, in a shared memory with a friend or family member, and in the pages of a love story. A feeling of love is truly accessible all around.
I hope you feel it and are inspired by it on this day and every day.

Inspire me. Tell me where you find love.

  1. My husband of 48 years shows me love each and every day. It’s in the little things he does. It doesn’t have to be some big gesture. It can be as simple as sharing a walk on the beach. You’re right love is all around us.

    1. I'm very happy for you. That kind of loving relationship is so meaningful.

  2. Love is everywhere there is caring, concern, laughter, sharing, small gestures and large. It makes us feel safe, secure and cherished.

  3. Love Actually is so profound. Even when you're laughing, you feel the wisdom deep inside. I'm lucky to have a husband who shows love every day from emptying the dishwasher to putting up with my writing snits--especially when he's putting up with that! *g*
